“I came to Dr. Church in my second year of law school experiencing extreme brain fog, memory loss, anxiety, emotional flashbacks, and burnout. I was convinced I had this diagnosis and that diagnosis, terrified that my world and mental state were falling apart. After my first session, I knew everything would be ok, perhaps painful, but ok. I’ve been seeing Dr. Church weekly, sometimes twice weekly, for almost two years, and I have come ridiculously far in my healing journey. What I once saw as a “normal childhood” I was able to accept as emotional and psychological neglect, allowing space for an uncountable number of SAs, abusive romantic relationships, toxic friendships, and blind pattern-following. Healing is a super long journey, and I have a long way to go, but I know I’ll be ok, and I owe that surety to Dr. Emma Church without a fraction of doubt.”
In my early twenties, I experienced a mental health crises and entered therapy for the first time. I received so much compassionate attention from my mental health professional—it was truly life-changing.
I knew I wanted to hold that space for other people who were struggling and become an agent of change and healing in the world. So, I dedicated my life to the field of psychology, becoming a clinical psychologist by the time I was 28 years old.
I loved every client that walked through my door! But, as my career progressed and I became a voice within the mental health community, I became increasingly conflicted.
I deeply struggled with the thought of diagnosing and “fixing” people who were, in my mind, suffering due to completely understandable responses to the pains and traumas of life.
I began to see how the most marginalized and abused members of society were pathologized as “mentally ill” and stigmatized in ways that furthered their pain and vulnerability. I saw that helping clients to “cope better” with circumstances, relationships, and cultural contexts that were complicit in dehumanizing them was no longer in integrity with my values and beliefs.
This inner conflict eventually became a burden too heavy to bear…
After nearly 15 years as a licensed psychologist, I reached a turning point. In the wake of profound personal trauma, I realized that traditional clinical models, while familiar, often fell short.
They not only failed to account for the full complexity of the healing process, they also contributed to the pathologizing of trauma responses, particularly in women and marginalized communities.
As someone deeply grounded in trauma studies, I understand that many so-called “symptoms” are not signs of disorder, but expressions of a nervous system in distress. They are adaptive, physiological, relational, and contextual.
Mental health cannot be separated from the lived experience of oppression, violence, or loss.
My own healing required me to move beyond the frameworks I was trained in. I turned toward somatic practices, energy work, consciousness studies, esoteric philosophy, and spiritual integration. These modalities allowed me to access deeper transformation, both for myself and for the clients I serve.
In 2022, I chose to release my license in order to work without constraint.
That decision has allowed me to integrate everything I know—scientific, psychological, and spiritual—into an approach that is both holistic and deeply informed.
It is not a departure from professionalism. It is a return to truth.
My path into trauma consulting and integrative care evolved from nearly two decades of clinical, academic, and lived experience. After working as a licensed psychologist, I transitioned into a broader framework that honors the full complexity of trauma, identity, and healing.
As a consultant and educator, I bring a trauma-informed, interdisciplinary lens to every case and client. My work integrates evidence-based research, somatic and relational practices, spiritual and cultural insight, and systemic analysis. I support individuals, legal teams, and institutions in understanding trauma not as pathology, but as the imprint of lived experience on the body, mind, and soul.
This journey also led me into legal consulting and advocacy. I now serve as an expert in high-conflict custody cases, institutional betrayal, and gender-based violence. I help courts and professionals better understand trauma narratives, and I support those navigating legal systems that often misinterpret survival responses as instability.
I believe that healing is not only a personal act, but a contribution to collective change. Every person who reclaims their voice is helping to reshape a world that has long misunderstood suffering and survival.
If you are seeking clarity, integration, or justice—there is a path forward.
“Before seeing Dr. Church I had been to 8 therapists in less than 6 years. None of them were ever able to connect with me. Once I began seeing her she learned how to approach and interact with me to make me feel comfortable. This resulted in me being able to open up and what I can honestly call the best Mental Healthcare I have received. To say that she helped me would be an understatement. If you are looking for a caring and empathetic therapist who is also real with you I recommend Dr. Church 100%.“
